For battery energy storage projects, every design decision can influence system performance, project economics and long-term serviceability. While cabinet specifiers often prioritize cells, thermal systems and fire protection, latching hardware can also play an important role in how storage systems are designed, installed, maintained and protected over time. Traditional vertical rod latches are commonly included as a standard option, which can make it difficult for asset owners and design teams to see the value of upgrading the latch system.

When rods are mounted externally, they can increase the overall cabinet footprint, reducing container loading efficiency and increasing freight, port and customs-related costs during transport. When rods are mounted internally, they can take up valuable cabinet space that could otherwise support battery cell modules, limiting cell density and reducing cabinet capacity. 


The F2 multi-point latch gives design teams a more compact alternative. With a significantly slimmer 30 to 50 mm profile compared with conventional vertical rod hardware, F2 helps reduce external bulk while supporting more efficient internal layouts. Making Service Work Easier for Field Teams

Energy storage cabinets are built for long service lifespans, but the people maintaining those systems often deal with the hidden labor and ergonomic challenges created by traditional door hardware. Over time, heavy doors, tight-tolerance rods and cabinet deformation can make access more difficult, slowing inspections and increasing service effort.

Traditional vertical rod latches may require two technicians to operate heavy doors during inspection and maintenance. F2 is designed with a 13:1 mechanical advantage, supporting easier single-handed operation and helping reduce on-site labor time for service teams. F2 also supports more reliable access as cabinets age in outdoor environments. While traditional vertical rods can jam or lose sealing when doors sag or deform, F2 maintains smooth latching and full sealing with up to 6 mm of door deformation. This helps reduce recurring adjustments, spare replacements and maintenance-related costs over the life of the cabinet.

Supporting Safer, More Reliable Energy Storage Sites

For asset owners and operators, cabinet hardware also plays a role in protecting equipment, maintaining environmental sealing and reducing site-level risks. Exposed rod lock points can be more vulnerable to prying or unauthorized access, while concealed multi-point locking helps secure the door across multiple positions and resist forced entry. 


F2 also delivers uniform 20 mm gasket compression to achieve an IP66 rating, helping protect cabinets against rain, dust and coastal salt fog while extending hardware lifespan. For storage sites exposed to demanding outdoor conditions, this added sealing performance helps protect the system and reduce long-term reliability concerns.

Helping Contain Pressure During Thermal Runaway Events

In battery energy storage applications, thermal runaway can generate intense internal pressure that may compromise cabinet doors. Traditional vertical rod latches concentrate that force at only two locking points, which can make the door more vulnerable under load. 


F2 helps distribute force more evenly across the cabinet frame through multiple latching points. Each F2 latching point supports more than 5,000 N of load, helping the cabinet better manage internal pressure during a thermal event and reduce the risk of hazards spreading beyond the cabinet.
